Preperation For a Short Expedition

I have decided to take a short tour of the islands of the Pacific to test the seaworthiness of my Brigantine warship, the SS Bad Diplomat, to prepare for it's likely deployment in the upcoming battle against the far-flung colonies of Neualtenburg. A short voyage should serve to season her for service, a provide a pleasant diversion in these last hours of peace.

Before a voyage of this kind it is necessary to gather stores, as one never does know what primitive and unsavory victuals may be offered by the natives of the isles, so I visited the Steelhead Hotel to secure provisions.

The Steelhead Hotel provides an invaluable service to this community, hosting the saturday formal dance in grand style, it's de-rigeur casino games tucked discretely above floors, and space for rooms as well above.
The architecture is unusual to me, but artful.

The Board of fare, if it might be called that, is standard for this region. Perhaps I have been spoiled by my travels, though. One of the finest hotels, for friendliness and services, I have encountered, was while travelling by rail from Chicago, there was a halt in Wisconsin at the Capitol Hotel. I remember fondly its bill of fare, with such fondness I have endeavored to save it, as a reminder of my journey along with a lovely Illustration of the hotel itself, which I reprint here for you now.

I hope someday to introduce such delicacies as those listed here in Steelhead, and daily encourage The hotel's proprieters, and those of the saloon, to try to think beyond Trout, salt pork, wheat cakes and new potatoes, but to little avail.

Having laden my vessel with stores belowdecks, I prepared for my first destination, the longest leg of my journey, to the to the southern Island of Svarga.
